ONA

The Leather Clifton Backpack Look Through

The Leather Clifton is a leather backpack by ONA, introduced earlier this year. It has been quite a long while since ONA had come up with a newer backpack, the company has been focusing on its messenger back series and their accessories during the last few years. I own the Campus Bay and Union Street before this bag, and both held up pretty well after a few years of usage. With this bag, I haven't been able to find much information of the interior before I had received it, which makes me more curious of the design, considering the bag as been out for a little bit over four months.

Size wise, the bag is a little bigger than I thought, the height and width is actually similar to the campus bay, but would only fit a 13 inch laptop due to its shape. I would actually like to see a slightly smaller version of this bag, since slimmer bags will give me more flexibility when I am using it on a daily basis. The weight is decent at a little bit less than 2kg, and fits comfortably on my back when not fully loaded with big lenses.

The only part that you would have quick access to for this bag would be the front compartment, which has enough space to store your mobile device, wallets, keys, small notepad.

Due the leather cover over the zipper, it would actually slow you down a bit in order to unzip the bag.

Although it looks like a small bag from the photos on their website, but it is not much smaller than the Campus Bay, the Clifton measures at 17"L x 11"W x 4.5"D ,which allows you to hold quite bit of things. It would not be a particle choice to fill this bag like what I did in the photo because you would not have quick access of anything, which is not what this bag is meant for.

What I have always like about ONA bags is that It has the same aesthetic that the other ONA product has, clean and smooth design. The leather quality is also very solid on this bag.

So, this pretty much what you are paying for, a simplistic design, nicely hand crafted leather bag for general purposes. Function wise, is not something you would mainly be looking for in ONA's product lines. Bottom line is that if you value the looks of it and has the budget, you would likely to find it appealing.  After all,  one could see it as paying for a more premium fashionable accessories that just happen to hold and protect some photo gear nicely. Most leather bags from big fashion brand would probably cost four or five times more. Although this bag is not cheap at $499USD, but the amount of rants on social media complaining about the pricing is quite ridiculous. Everyone's perception of value is different. For this bag, it would be be a easy decision for someone who is considering purchasing it if it falls within your budget.
